We are often asked if CMNTY Platform is WCAG 2.0 compliant. The short answer is: we are compliant to the extent which you can expect from any modern technology provider. However, we are in the process of improving the platform to meet WCAG accessibility compliance.
Currently, We Strive for Best of Both Worlds
Our mission, first and foremost, is to provide the best possible community platform. We do regular WCAG tests and if any Warnings or Errors come up, we fix them if we feel it has no major impact on other UX aspects of the platform. Doing that we believe we offer a “best of both worlds” approach. We are comfortable saying that our software complies, and we are confident that you will be able to invite and engage with any member you invite to your CMNTY Platform.
Current improvements allow for:
- Greater design customizations with WCAG AA & AAA Contrast checks:
- Interaction keyboard for the front-end with the following keys:
- Tab = to go next on clickable text or input field,
- Shift+Tab = to go back to clickable text or input field,
- Space = to select checkbox,
- Enter = to select,
- Up and down arrow keys = for the calendar as well as a dropdown, and
- Esc = to remove dropdown list and calendar popup.
Related: ADA compliance
In the USA, the Department of Justice (DOJ) published the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design in September 2010. These standards state that all electronic and information technology must be accessible to people with disabilities. The ADA encourages self-regulation of accessibility standards and the Department of Justice is currently developing regulations to provide specific guidance to the entities covered by the ADA. Organizations are encouraged to use the WCAG 2.0 level AA guidelines as a guide on how to become accessible until the DOJ defines the regulations.
